811 East Central Road, Arlington Heights, IL 60005

Kathryn C. Casey, JD, CELA, a Partner in the elder law firm of Dutton, Casey, and Mesoloras, is one of only a few certified elder law attorneys in Illinois.

Dan Kuhn, LCSW, Vice-President of Education for All Trust Home Care & author of Alzheimer’s Early Stages: First Steps for Family, Friends and Caregivers.

It is estimated that half of people affected with dementia are not diagnosed. Among those diagnosed, families often complain about lack of disease education, resources, and care planning. This seminar will focus on what families need to know and expect as Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias worsen over time. Practical issues such as day-to-day care, promoting autonomy and safety, and transitioning to the caregiving role will be discussed as well as planning for incapacity through legal and financial planning.

At the conclusion of this seminar, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the typical trajectory of dementia and related care issues,
2. Identify resources to help affected individuals and families better cope with the challenges of dementia,
3. Explain legal and financial tools to plan for incapacity and for long-term care at home or in a care facility.
