Opioids and Older Adults: Understanding the Risks & Developing Effective Responses

Wednesday 05/09/2018 04:30 PM - 06:00 PM
Summit of Uptown
10 North Summit Ave., Park Ridge, IL 60068

Please join us for an enlightening presentation by Kate Mahoney, LCSW, and Executive Director for the Naomi Ruth Cohen Institute for Mental Health Education at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, as she shares her insights about the opioid crisis as it relates to older adults.

The opioid crisis is real. According to the CDC, each day more than 1,000 people are treated in emergency departments related to problematic use of prescription opioids. When correctly prescribed, opioids can be an effective tool. Yet opioids also pose significant risks: breathing complications, fall risk, confusion, sedation and drug interaction. This workshop will review the risks of older adult opioid use and how to effectively prevent and address opioid use disorders in older adults.
