Care, Choice and Dignity: The Ingredients for Residents' Rights

Tuesday 05/08/2018 05:00 PM - 06:30 PM
Skokie Police
7300 Niles Center Road, Skokie, IL 60077

Presented by Audrey Thompson, LMSW
Long Term Care Ombudsman, Evanston

Residents' Rights are guaranteed by the federal 1987 Nursing Home Reform Law. The law requires nursing homes to "promote and protect the rights of each resident" and places a strong emphasis on individual dignity and self determination. A person living in a long-term care facility maintains the same rights as an individual in the larger community. Audrey will explain the principles underlying residents' rights and how long term care residents can be encouraged and supported in exercising their rights, and the role of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman.
