Age of Anxiety: Understanding and Treating Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety can affect up to 18 percent of the population in the US at any given time. Why worry? Older adults can have many reasons to be anxious such as the economy, housing instability, family conflict, illness, separation or loss of loved ones, chronic pain, and more. Anxiety is a treatable disorder when it is recognized, diagnosed, and treated with research based treatment plans. This discussion will include, discussing the different types of anxiety disorders, identifying symptoms and presentation of anxiety disorders in older adults, co-morbid diagnoses and how they can impact anxiety, treatment options for anxious clients, and how best to work and connect with someone who may be suffering from an anxiety disorder.
